Why I Built Far East Advisory

After more than 20 years living and working in South China, I've had the privilege of seeing this remarkable region from the inside — the opportunities, the relationships, and yes, the pitfalls.

I've watched brilliant businesses with great products struggle — not because of anything wrong with their idea or their ambition, but simply because they didn't have the right person in their corner when they needed it most. A supplier who promised the world and delivered something else. A contract signed without anyone truly understanding what it said. A quality issue that could have been caught at the factory but wasn't discovered until a container arrived on the other side of the world.

These situations are painful to watch — especially when you know they were entirely avoidable.

Over two decades I've built something that money genuinely can't buy overnight — a deep network of trusted contacts, an understanding of how business really works here, and the kind of cultural fluency that only comes from living it every day. I built Far East Advisory to put that to work for you.

Two Decades in the Making

Far East Advisory didn't emerge overnight. It's the result of more than 20 years of building relationships, learning the landscape, and developing the kind of expertise that only real, on-the-ground experience can provide.

Every year spent in South China has added another layer — another contact, another lesson, another piece of understanding about how this extraordinary region really works. That accumulated knowledge is what we bring to every client engagement.

Early 2000s

First arrived in South China. Began building relationships with manufacturers and suppliers across the Pearl River Delta — learning the business landscape from the ground up.

Mid 2000s

Deep immersion in sourcing and manufacturing across Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Dongguan. Developed expertise in quality control, supplier management, and cross-cultural business communication.

2010s

Expanded expertise into Hong Kong and Taiwan. Developed comprehensive understanding of business setup, legal structures, and the distinct business cultures across Greater China.

Recent Years

Recognised the growing need for a genuinely premium, trusted advisory service for Western businesses. Began formalising 20+ years of experience and relationships into a structured service offering.
